K.C.K.A.A.K.A.T.B.T.B.
a sculpture by Rob Sohmer
at the Richard J. Daley Branch, Chicago Public Library

FAQ:

What is the name of the sculpture?

The sculpture is called K.C.K.A.A.K.A.T.B.T.B. That stands for Katamari Gordian Knot Agglomeration Also Known As The Ball for Terrain Biennial. It was originally outside as part of Terrain Biennial. I guess I should add a N.A.T.R.J.D.L. for Now At The Richard J. Daley Library, but I think the name is long enough already.

Why did you create this?

You know the bits of stuff that you have lying around at home that you can’t bear to get rid of? Maybe in a drawer or in a box under the bed? I had some extra pieces of rope and I realized I had enough to create a whole ball with all the extra lengths.   Each of the ropes is woven in so that I wouldn’t have to find a use for the rope again.

How much rope did you use?

I’m not sure, but I guess about 2000 feet, or more than 600 m.

What is inside the ball?

I don’t know actually, I haven’t been able to see the inside.

Is it all rope?

Nope there are some other cords too, see if you can spot them.

Can I roll it?

Please don’t, it likes to be on one place.

Is that it?

There are a couple of other smaller balls around the library, see if you can spot them! Also, we are doing an event on December 16, 2023. Come by and you can make your own planet!
